Lesson and Assignment Four

Horcruxes are indeed a matter involving very advanced, very Dark magic. Only one book in the Hogwarts Library has been found to refer to them even in passing because the subject is banned at Hogwarts. The term "Horcrux" is used to refer to any object in which a person has concealed a part of his or her soul. The object need not be inanimate; Some believe a living creature can be used as a Horcrux, although it is risky to do so since the Horcrux in such a case is something that can move and think for itself, independently of the implanted fragment of soul. The purpose of a Horcrux is to protect the given bit of soul from anything that might happen to the body of the person to whom

To create a Horcrux, by definition the spell-caster must have split his or her soul into fragments, so that one fragment can be implanted within the Horcrux while the other is retained in the spell-caster's own body. The act of splitting the soul is accomplished by committing murder, which rips the soul apart. It does not matter whether the victim is a witch, wizard, or Muggle.

Those who are set on creating a Horcrux are likely to choose objects of some significance to them, which he deems worthy of protecting bits of their soul.

Rings, Lockets, Diaries, Cups, any every day things can be a horcrux. Apart from the issue of what objects might be Horcruxes, we also come to the question of how to tell if they are a Horcrux, if they are inanimate objects. There is no real way to know. Judging from what is known of the Horcruxes accounted for so far, they would most likely be hidden in a place significant to that of its maker.

Assignment:

As this is your final assignment, I plan on making things a little fun. Now I cannot let you create your own Horcrux, that would be unimaginable. But, I can let you write about it. Since you do not know the actual procedure of it, make it up. This is totally an imaginary story, and you can make your horcrux how and whatever you want. If you want a to kiss a bunny and make that your horcrux, fine by me. But, as usual, there is a length that it must be. I am requiring 300 words at the very least. I want to see your best work here. Be imaginative, and creative, and most of all, have fun. Submit the assigment in the Dark Objects clasroom.
